Custom Shop Tasco 12-60X56

I just received a remington model 700 with a HS stock with black and grey webbing and a tasco 12-60X56 scope. It has the yardage wheel on the side. I have researched alot on these scopes and haven't really turned up much. I might get rid of it because I think it might be just a little much for what I am going for. I need a scope for my 22-250, coyote/varmint gun. What are your opinions. Should I sell this and get less power, maybe 6-20 or something??? My other 22-250 wears a loopy 4.5-14. What are your opinions of this scope, the tasco) and should I keep it? It looks clear but I need to buy scope rings for it so it hasn't been on my gun.

It should be made in Japan so quality is pretty good with these scopes. Have you searched over in opticstalk.com? For a coyote varmint scope this is not a good option, from a bench shooting pd it does have its place, running coyote not good. Most callers use 3-9 or less to make a quick shot as they don't sit still. One option is have quick release rings and bases to swap with a low powered scope when desired.

Had one of those a few years back,,anything over about 20-24 power was was so blurry you couldn`t see anything...That is a huge scope also,,way to big IMO to do much coyote calling/hunting..I`d sell it and pickup something in like a 4-16 or so..Just my .002 worth..

I agree, I think it is a little on the bnig side and the magnification is way to high. I am going to sell it and get something in the 4-14 or 6-18 area. Anybody have any idea on what these are worth. I have no idea.

I sold the one I had for $350..Seen one for sale a while back for $325,,don`t know if it sold or not though....

Some years ago I had one of those custom shop scopes, an 8-40. It was ok but definitely not outstanding. The large sidewheel actually just attaches to a much smaller side knob. The entire parallax/focus range isn't even one full revolution, maybe 220* or so. Focus was touchy and it was very difficult to get a sharp picture. Backed down to 32X and compared to a Burris 8-32 Signature at full power, the Burris was much sharper. That 8-40 would have been terrible for coyote hunting. I do have one 12-32 B&L that works for prairie dogs/rockchucks, but only going down to 12x at the bottom end makes finding targets more difficult. A 12-60 would be worthless on a coyote gun.

Tasco turns me off, sorry but, this stuff is built to sell, not for quality. Burris is the best for the least price. I've shoved five scopes onto my rifle thus far. Burris Signature Select is the best quality for the lowest price that I can zero with perfection. The higher the power, the more decrepancies occur. My Bushnell 4-12x40mm self-destructed, cross-hairwise, within a few months. Yea, $500+ dollars is a bundle of cash, but that's what it takes to buy quality glass today. cliffy

I had one that wouldn't hold zero. the shots would start marching off the target 1/4' per shot from left to right. I later found out that it was a common complaint with regard to the CS scopes.

I had one and it was a disappointment. It came from SWFA's sample list and it was supposed to be a 8-40x56 and it had a dent. They took it back and I bought a NXS 5.5-22x56. If you put it on Ebay, it will bring some $$ but, people that know optics will stay away. I do have a couple of the 8-40x56 on some .22 rimfires and they are better than the 12-60. Back when you could find them for around $200, they were ok for the money.

The TASCO Custom Shop/Tac line of scopes 8x-40x, 10x-50x and 12x-60 were built for for use on FT Airguns, that's why the Big Sidewheel & pointer with the yardage marks. Like everything that's made they were used beyond the designed purpose. They are great scopes when used in the closer yardages for ranging and targeting.

They are not 1000yd. centerfire long range scopes.
