Bullet blow up video

This is a followup from a post from 6mmTAC40 the other day that shows a short video of the bullet blowing up. His actual post is below.

Had a great weekend at the Indiana long range regional! Although weather was threatening to poor down on us at any second, we still got all the matches in with just a 1 hour delay Saturday!

I had the pleasure to shoot with my friend Alex Muller. Alex has became a first place shooter faster than I have seen someone come up.
Alex was in the lead going into the last match and was not going to give us a chance until tragedy struck in his 15th shot and started blowing up bullets!! It was an absolute heart breaker to watch.
In mine and Amanda’s eyes, Alex Mullers’ name will be at the top of the score sheet!!
Great shooting Alex!!!

I have a slow motion video but will not load to the forum so I’ll post some pictures

i have seen this happen quite a few times with calibers ranging from .223 to .284 but usually a bit closer to the target before fragmenting.

Lost one in the final 1000yd match while leading our state LR championship in 2000. A 105 A-Max from a 6/250. The FNG-type scorekeeper blurted out, "hey, I just saw your bullet explode".

Lost another in South Africa during a shootoff at 800M/900yds at the World's in 1999. It was my ONLY sighter and it never made the target (one sighter and 3 to count). Still won the shootoff over Mitch, so that was kind of satisfying :)

I have had several 90VLD and SMK blow up. Typically its HOT day when it happens. Or the gun didn't have a significant time to cool down. I also blame old lot numbers #9881 for the 90 VLD's.

The only time I had troubles was with a 6mm that scanned poorly on my juenke machine. They were terrible but still shot well and cost me a match very similar to Alex’s. I sent the rest back for replacement and they said everyone was calling about this batch. Bad jackets from?? Misaligned dies or something

Mike ,,,could you give us a lot number so that if anyone has some of those bullets he/she can be aware of the problem,,,,Roger

time flies ,,,hahaha,,,I cant rember where I parked the car,,,,thanks for trying to remember,, Mike,,,,,Roger

It’s burned in my memory (the match) since it was shot 78 & 79 of a 80 shot match. Like Alex but I was setting the range record and disaster struck me down. Lol
I waited a couple minutes and #80 was a X

I wouldn’t name a company on here regardless. I took the problem to them and they replaced them for me.
The big question in both of these cases is...How can these bad bullets have shot so well?

If it ever happens to you in a match, trust me: you will remember the exact day, hour, and minute, as well as the specific state, city, and range; you will also frequently recall the match number and shot number within that particular match, especially during REM sleep., where you might actually wake up in a cold sweat, screaming loudly. Finally, it will likely take several years before you gradually stop mentally adding up the score you MIGHT have had without the bullet jacket issues.

I agree,,,,I remember the 3 times I set a record,,,I can remember every shot ,,,,what the wind was like, etc,,,,its uncanny,,,that is prolly why I did well on those occasions,,,I was in tune with my surroundings,,,Roger
