A new Member, Trattoria, has been banned. On this, his first day, he sent out a dozen PMs soliciting Optics sales.

I have tried to put warnings in all those conversations.

Soliciting sales by PM by new member violates our rules. Beware!

He has been banned but you might still see a PM. Beware!

    Thanks for protecting us.

How do I get the green "selling" and red "sold" boxes on my listings?

Wish I had read this first.
He messaged me offering to sell me a scope and asked me to text him so I did. He responded wanting my email address so I did. I tried to call the number someone answered and hung up.
Any ideas on what I got myself into or what precautions I should take now. I haven’t heard anything back from him and probably won’t. I figure he’s going to hack me somehow.
    Please advise

Can a person be hacked with just cell phone number and an email address?
    God, I hope not!

Yes! I know a guy that was. Somehow, they can start getting your emails and start changing passwords and accounts and credit cards. Beware!

There is a reason that I don't ever give out personal information unless it is absolutely necessary. I won't even give google my phone number for the sake of recovering my email. Ebay emailed me today, asking for me to update my personal information, so they can help protect my account. Can someone please explain how putting more of my personal information on the internet makes me safer. Ebay has already been hacked once. No thanks.

Special thanks to the forum boss. As promised, membership upgrade coming after this post.

Don’t do anything through Ebay email. Go to their website and see if you have notifications on your messages.

OK, I believe I have been able to post warnings in all the PMs.

Request -- Folks, it is against our rule for a new MEMBER, any new member, to solicit sales via PM in the first 30 days.

If anyone does so they are presumed to be a thief and a scammer.

Report any sales PM from a new member to me.

And for God's sake look at the user JOIN Date.

Let me repeat -- always look at the Member Join Date.

    You have to protect yourself.

What is interesting is that he was using 3-5 different IPs withing a few minutes. And he started sending out PMs almost immediately after registering his account.

Lesson: NEVER BUY from a New Member Soliciting Sales via PM!!

If anyone is in Law enforcement...

I just called the 714-592-7201 number. A person with Asian-accented English answered. I asked for Kenneth Johnson. After a few seconds he said "yes, that's me". I then said I got this number from the Forum and wanted the physical address to send a payment. He eventually hung up.

On a second time, someone with an African accent answered.

After a long hold, I managed to get an address: 3350 Bunting, Compton, CA

But that doesn't show up on a map. Howerver there is a Bandera Ave. It was hard to understand the guy.

We attempted to do a reverse phone look-up, but our tool came up negative. If there is any member who is in law enforcement in the Brea or Compton CA area, I'd like to attempt to track down this guy...
