10x50 SIII3 Sightron. On my 6mmBR, which is a bench queen. has only gone from safe to pelican case, to bench. Scope mounted in Burris XTR rings. not a mark on it. Never been dropped as far as I know. Have a trip to CO planned for Sept 12- Comments on any part of this welcome...

Replace it with something else .that makes 3 I have seen Larry

I just got my SIII 10-50X60 back from Sightron this week. It was less than 30 days since I bought it new from Optics Planet and the insides collapsed while shooting. Fortunately, the folks at Sightron were very nice and repaired it for me pretty quickly (about 1 week). Frustrating, but I guess it happens. Have other friends with same scope and I haven't heard of them having problems.

As I take a closer look, the 2 halves are threaded together- very thin metal there. Vortex Golden Eagle also a contender now as well!

How rigid is the foam in that case? Is there clearance between the scope and bottom half of the case? The reason I ask is it looks like there may be a metal fatigue issue in play. Constant pressure then release could have caused it to fatigue and then break. At any rate, it's still gaffed up. :( Best of luck with your Sightron dealings.

It looks like the rifle is upside down when you are carrying the case by the handle. If the gun is not snug in the foam it may allow the weight of the rifle to be carried by the scope and cause the metal fatigue suggested by hogpatrol. Maybe you should flip the cutout foam so the scope is up.

I saw another post with the same scope broken at the same spot. The fellow didn't have enough clearance for the bell when mounting it and when he tightened the rings it hit the barrel and cracked the scope at that joint (ouch). I guess you need to make sure that you don't stress the joint.

reading up on NF Competition right now.... but I like the reticle options on the benchrest better... BUT really like the zero stop.....

If your looking at the Comp. Shoot over to Bullets.com and look at the March......On Sale. Very strong build quality.

Hog patrol and Kookie- Excellent point! Never considered that- When I cut the foam, I left the line and it fits pretty snug. About 3" between top of scope and side of case. That being said, easy enough to flip around! The scope was pretty forward in the rings. I really didn't crank on them- just snug enough to keep from spinning and then a drop of blue locktite on the screw tip. If I can't find a Vortex on Monday, I think I am going to grab a burris XTR from here.

Good thoughts on the reversing the rifle so the weight isn't on the scope. I'd also cut out both sides where the scope lays so it's just cradled and not squashed between the foam.

SavageShooter - Larry - is right. I watched a fellow benchrest shooter literally have his objective housing fall off while shooting from the bench. He was shocked it came loose and while touching it to be sure, it fell off just like yours.

A few months later he commented that Sightron did replace the whole scope for him. He also did a replacement. Nightforce.

Follow up- Sightron repaired the scope, as well as the ultra stiff focus knob and had it back to me about 12 days later. I thought that was a great turnaround time for a repair!

- and my replacement came in about the same time- Vortex Golden Eagle ECR

Good to hear they took care of you. This would not have been a very pretty alternative:
