Any luck with SRP in cold wx?

I’ve read the articles and seen the videos about misfires in cold weather. Is anyone having any luck? I’m shooting a creedmoor today it is 23F and only the first two shells went (still warm) next 5 all went click. My rifle is plum.

Alternatively if anyone wants to trade for some small primer Peterson brass...

Interesting. It's been cold, (huh) here in Virginia and I've been shooting using SRP without a problem. Be interesting if a member in "real" cold weather has had any problems.

Firing pin strength comes into play as well...

Shooting medium size cartridges with small rifle primers in the winter is never a problem with Federal / Winchester or Remington primers.
I've only had issues with CCI primers in below freezing temps.

I've had duds with CCI large rifle primers in the winter as well, but that was mostly due to the firing pin spring not being very heavy duty. Never had a problem with CCI's when using a receiver with stout firing pin impact.

I shoot all winter with temps dipping into the -25 celcius ( - 15 f )

Drawing on my recent experience with no-kidding-around cold, I never had a problem with SRPs igniting a powder charge in my .260 AIs at temperatures just above and below zero. I only use single base powders (RL-23 and H4831SC) in this chambering - large charges of slow-burning double base powders may behave differently. I use Tula SRMPs almost exclusively but there are some CCI 450s thrown into the experience base.

I noted "next 5 all went click" - did you mean to say that the primers did not detonate? If so, there's something else going on. Bad lot of primers, firing pin protrusion is insufficient, firing pin travel is obstructed (perhaps by lubricant that gets gummy in cold temps), etc.

Sometimes your choice of oil on the firing pin assy makes the biggest difference
I believe it's more in the choices of where they live. If it ever gets below 0 down here people would die never the less worrying about a primers ability to function. Lol..

I have had that issue, but I've never had it in an AR-15...

...the AR-15, with a full strength hammer spring, and paired with an ~0.060" diameter pin, has plenty.

The issue I had was on a R700 standard FP on...you guessed it....Peterson SRP brass. I bet not more that 50% were firing, and I was pissed, briefly. The owner, however, stated the bolt was likely over 10,000 cycles with a bunch of dryfire.

Lightbulb.

The solution was a new mainspring and a good cleaning. 100% ignition, SD 8, roughly 1/4 Minute groups. No other change was made to the system.
