Looking for a good bullet for elk out of a 7mag. All shots are less then 100 yards, I want a trust worthy bullet. Thinking accubond or the ole partition.

Speer 175 grand slam, shot angle to vitals won't matter.

    Accubond, Ballistic Tip, Partition, VLD-H.

Depends what you expect a bullet to do.
Barnes, Nosler, Hornady, Sierra all designed to stay together, expand, but punch through.

Berger VLD-H go in 1-3 inches then comes apart. Massive internal damage!

Cutting Edge bullets are a mono like Barnes, but go in 2-5 inches when 4-8 petals break off. Jagged edged base keeps plowing through. Again massive internal damage, but with an exit wound.

Agree 100% with Alex, the 168 Berger VLD is a great elk bullet. It's all I use.

Barnes TSX is my top pick where a high bc isn't needed. I'm over 100 animals downed with my 270 and 7stw using Barnes, including at least a dozen elk and a boat-load of hogs and Ive not had needed a second shot. They have been very lethal and easy on the blood-shot which is a nice combination.

I'm a huge fan of the Nosler Partitions in 160 for the 7mm. They perform great. At 100 yards your not asking for alot tho. Velocity will be high, aiding the bullet to perform as it should.

We’ve had great luck with tsx, partition, and accubonds on moose and bear at ranges from 50 yards too 350 yards. Haven’t tested them past that

From personal experience, 100 yards, 154g Hornady sp or the 162 are great....in spades. R#25 with Win mag primers. Pards shot 160g Grand slam on everything, guides with mules.

A trusted hunter, now passed on, shot the 7 Mashburn super with 160g partitions on elk at 3200, not max load. He said that elk flopped. He also said that the 175g Sierra btsp was on par with a 175g Partition in how it penetrated.

I have taken hand fulls of elk as well as others in my hunting family and arguably the 168g hunting berger at any realistic distance and the partition 165 Nosler partition to be with the most reliable..

160 Accubond or Trophy Bonded Tip. Pick whichever shoots under 2" at 3000 fps for that distance.

If your rifle shoots them well, the 160-175 partitions are hard to beat. Most of the 17 plus elk that I have killed were with them. Shots from 30-443 yards.
