6mm SLR dies

I just received the Whiddon dies, but haven't used them yet, as I am waiting for my reamer to arrive from PTG, so the rifle can be made. All my current dies are Redding bushing and competition neck sizing and seating. I really like them and was a bit disappointed that the bushing neck die is not available from Whidden or Whitley.

The Whidden dies look very nice and come with a nice box and headspace gage.

I would say if you currently use bushing dies, then go for it. I have seen great improvements in concentricity since using bushing dies. I will never go back to the regular ones. QM

Get the bushing dies, that way you can control your neck tension where you want it. I have no problems forming with the bushing dies, just make sure you screw the bushing all the way down when you are forming. After that you can back off ¼ turn or so on the lock nut, enough to let it float and center.

I use the bushing dies. I use the expander ball. I tend to have a lot of dented case mouths. On my 6.5x47 I might get the non bushing and get the expander ball set.

Whidden makes them, mine were at the house in a week. Really all you need to know, his prices are in line with pretty much everyone's top shelf dies and they're good dies.

Unless your turning necks .268 will be to small..I use a .270 and do a 100% clean up on the necks......271-.273 or some where along those lines would be good for unturned stuff depending on how thick your necks are.

Bingo, for unturned .243 Winchester brass.

I am not sure what other SLR owners have experienced lately. There has been Three of us that have SLR's and received brass from Winchester lately as in the last year or so ( It was unavailable do to the drought) That has not been very good in QC. Necks are all over the place for thickness and some having some sort of Over lapping tag on them. One guy had to buy a neck turner and start neck turning. Once you go through the culling and turning its been fine.
Just wanted to let you guys know the mass production from Winchester has not been good on there 243 brass. Not sure what they have going on.

I have been turning necks... Reluctantly...

I read some statements that the non bushing fl van give lower run out versus a bushing die.
Even Whidden mentions it on his web site.
My best fl sizer is a custom made Hornady brx fl die.
It has no bushings and gives very low run out. But that is when using Lapua BR brass ...not Winchester or Remington

Thats also what Ive found. It like they made it out of 308 brass. The new win brass I sized has donuts...definitely have to do some neck turning. The brass seems to shoot very consistently when prepped.
