6BR-AI-DX Got my Attention Today

I started out with a new blank had been chambered, so I set the shoulder back and went in with BRDX reamer. Brass OAL has to be adjusted due using the 6BR go Gauge with BRDX reamer, I trimmed to 1.524". Bought a Harrells #2 Dasher die and cut it off for FL sizing duties, thank you Stan Taylor for this fine idea!! I am using a BRX seating die till I get either a blank or modify a BR die.

First trip, uneventful just fireforming, second trip uneventful didnt like Varget, but possibly H4895, brass a touch too tight, as well as neck tension a touch tight. I made adjustments and took sized cases with powder and primers to the 100 yd line today, starting out with some older RL15 sold by High Tech.

31.5 grains with 1978 Berger VLD`s +.010" produced a nice cluster, but was slow at 2887 average. Bumped it to 31.8 grains and things got close to the velocity goal of 2920 as recomended by David Dorris, but the group opened, then I tried Davids suggested load of 32 grains, and I was floored. Velocity was 2945, and 3 shots went into a dot. I went back to load 2 more and changed aim point, and those 2 went into another dot. Needless to say I am done at 100 yds, and will try this soon at 600.

VERY nice shooting.

And I suppose the fouling shot is in the middle of the first group somewhere. :);):cool:WD

The loading room is a mere 10 steps away. The barrel stays warm. The large group was where I started with 10 Fireform loads. The point of aim moved a little between the 3 and 2 shots.
Next outing should give credit if due.

could you run a BR reamer in and use the complete length of the BR necks without messing the chamber up??

hope you got plenty of them"old" VLD`s

You could, but feel you would give up the "crush" fit.

I have ample supply, maybe 2500.

Tim,

It's been a while since you first reported on this. How did it turn out? I'm shooting a Dasher now, but am gravitating towards a 6BR-AI as it seems to be much easier to tune and has a wider tune window.

I've got a Panda now to play with. I might have to give my old 8twist Dasher barrel a try as a 6BR-AI.

Thanks,
Terry

I have things ready, but our Mississippi deer season is in till the end of January so I have not been going like normal. Check with Gabe22BR. I hear he has a new straight taper Brux 8 twist that is shooting the new 110 Sierras well !!

I am a believer, just to add, I chambered a new blank for myself, I think this makes 3 of the 6BR-AI, or Shawtys I have.

Nope, when the weather cooperates here....

I'm love mine! So far testing the 110 Sierra looks great .

What's not to like, take a old BR case, trim, load and shoot. I've been using some old 22BR cases to make from.

Tim also has a 22 cal version. Pushing 53gr. V-Max at blazing speeds!!
