    Hello,

I've grown quite bored shooting 130 Hybrids from my 6.5. I have decided to venture out and learn a little about the cartridge instead of shooting the same small groups with the same bullet over and over.

I have some 123 Scenars inbound, and want to know about where to seat them for my OCW test.

I have never fired a Lapua bullet, so I know nothing about them.

Barrel is a Brux 4 groove with a .170 freebore, if that helps.

Board of shooting tiny groups. I love it.

Clancy have you seen this video? May help you know where to seat them.

    That's a very good method.

I should have been more clear. I know how to find distance to the lands, but most of these bullets share a general seating depth "node" if you will. For instance, lots and lots of guys shoot a 130 VLD jammed 5.

I just wondered if there was a general consensus about the 123. It's much easier to read an OCW if the groups are smaller, so I was hoping to be somewhere close for that reason.

If I don't hear much, I'll probably just start them .020 off and go in/out from there.

I guess bored might not be the right word either. It always makes me smile. I just know I'm not going to learn much about the cartridge if I don't venture out.

I try to shoot lots of combinations with anything new, for future reference and to help others out should they go down the same road later on.

I've never been the type to find a load and burn a barrel out.

I tried a box of them for kicks since I hunt with mine. Lost the loads but they may increase your boredom.:D

My sweet spot with 123 scenars was 0.005" off lands. I used varget at 37.2 gr and had a mv of 2950 fps in a 30" tube. My freebore was 0.167". It shoots very well.

Ive burned thousands of those little 123s.

Generally, I load them at 2.725" to 2.745" oal where they would be just touching the lands at 2.785".

So .040" to .060" from just touching..depending on the barrel and round count.

And 37.4 to 37.6 Varget is my preferred charge as well.

Why not just test for best seating before OCW?

I've done it both ways. One thing I've been doing a lot of lately is loading an OCW test, but in the middle of it I'll load extra groups for two or three charges and run a seating depth test.

Sometimes I learn little and sometimes there's a screaming load right there and I'm down to just the verification within 30-40 rounds.

I shot 600 of them and seated them .020 off touching with RL15 at 3040 fps,,groups were about the same but I can hit smaller targets easier with the 130 VLD,

Mine prefers the 123 Scenar over the 130 AR Hybrid. Jumping them .010.

I have two that I run 123 Scenars in. Both loads are about 0.010" off lands. 37.2 and 37.5 gr. of Varget are charges.

When I had first x47 built years ago, I planned to run 130 Bergers. I had 123 Scenars on hand. I ordered 130s and tried the Scenars before the Bergers arrived. I have used thousands of the Scenars since then and still have the 130s boxed up!!

Don't forget to look at the 120g Scenar L. They seem to be very consistent in my rifles that shoot 123's well.
