I'm going to start working up a load for the 123 AMAX bullets. I know there are better bullets out there, but I only have access to 500 yards, and the 123s are cheap and will do fine. I just need to know where do I begin with my charges. Also, any help on if I should jump or jam them would be great. Thanks in advance.

RL15, start @ 37.4 and work up, you will find your charge. I shoot a 28" barrel.

Great rifle, I had my best luck with 123 Scenars.

I shoot 37.5 Varget with a CCI 450 primer. .010 into lands for a speed of 2840 from a 25" barrel. Work up to this load. Not hot in my rifle but you know the rest.

Varget and RL15 are very close. This is the reason I posted it. I have no doubt I could do the same with Varget. I always try different powders when finding my load.

Below is the same bullet shooting Varget Powder.

If you could only load one, would you go 123 Amax or 123 Scenar?

I would think you might invest in a reloading manual for starters and read it if you don't already have tons of experience. You can also use the Hodgdon reloading site to get charge information as well. I own one book at least for each powder and bullet company to be safe. I normally will ask about a charge only if I am having accuracy issue's and always fact check against the factory manual.

As far as I know, there still ain't a whole lotta manuals out there with data for the 6.5x47 and I haven't seen anything about it on Hogdon's website either.

Manuals don't help any right now. A lot of trial and error , and hopefully a lot of input from those who have tried. Would be nice to get some help so we can be the ones to write in the manuals.

I tried both, only the Scenars worked for me. I have "never" had any luck with the A-Max's, not in my 6.5x47 or 308.

The 208 Amax is great in my 300WM, but not the 168,s in my 308! I even used Dan Newberry's advice. Had him scratching his head.

Since I already have some 123 Scenars, I will try them and Varget. Think maybe start around 35.5?

Every post I've ever read about this caliber they settle between 37-38gr with the 123's and Varget. Seems getting this caliber to shoot is fairly easy if you have nothing wrong with your stick.

Never got mine to shoot anything over 123's accuratly, but 120's and 123's are deadly.
