6.5 Creedmoor shooting 147 ELD-M's in Peterson brass with R-26

After reading a bit about guys using R-26 and getting good velocity my dad and I started messing with it in our Creedmoors. I tried the normal (for me anyway) .015" off like I shoot Bergers for the first attempt and they shot OK. I had read that people were have better results with more jump so I went to .030" off on Sunday. My rifle is built on a Remington action that I trued and threaded the bolt knob. Then I sent it to have the bolt fluted before nitriding it. Well the nitriding was premature. I originally ordered and shot Lapua brass but kept piercing primers the first outing. Because everything had been nitrided bushing the bolt for a small pin wasn't a easy fix. After hearing some good feedback about Peterson brass I ordered 200 cases to try out. This brass is heavy and gives up capacity to Lapua and Hornady to the tune of 1 and 3 grains of water. It is nice brass though and it's tough. 46 grains was the max I loaded and I didn't use a drop tube so I could probably fit a bit more with fired cases and a drop tube but I'm starting to get very slight ejector marks at 46grs. The velocity for 46grs was 2875fps. Before shooting the gun Sunday I had 10 rounds fired through it. I shot 17 rounds Sunday. BTW the rest of the rifle is a Brux #3 contour 8 twist, one of my Lil Beast brakes, a Jewell trigger, and a McMillan edge fill Game Scout stock. I have a 5x25 Zeiss HD5 on it with the varmint reticle.

The biggest group is a 5 shot group at 45grs. It's the upper group on the second picture. The top 3 shot group was the 46gr load and measures .105". The lower group is 45.5grs and 4 shots because I pooched the 3rd shot.

That is serious speed. What length in your barrel? I may have to try that some time with my .260. I am using a max load of Re19 with the 147.

What was your ES and SD? I tried RL26 in my 260AI with the 147's and shot good groups and almost 3000 fps but I couldn't get the velocity spread under about 35fps. My usual load has an ES of 15. Had high hopes for the combo but....

I shoot a 6.5x55 in a 28" Kreiger.
147gr ELD with 46.2gr. of Rel 26
Excellent accuracy and 2810 fps.
Low pressure. < 10fps spread
Lapua brass, 9X loaded with CCI BR primers

The spreads were under 20 when I hit the node and a bit higher down lower. My dad had a load, I think it was 45.5grs, where his spreads were 5 or 6fps if I remember right.

In my 27" 6.5 Creedmoor with H4350 I am getting 2820fps with the 147s. They are very accurate and fly great to 1020 yards which is the farthest I have been able to get them so far.

43grns. Same as my 140 ELDs. I worked up from 40.5grns and 43 was the speed I wanted and accuracy. There was a lower node but speed was only around 2690fps.

Just a little update.....my dad is shooting 45.5gr with a 2.82" OAL and has now shot groups of .088, .115, and .171". His rifle is a Remington action with a Wilson barrel I chambered.

Gotta Love that RL26.
Good shooting by the way.
I have tested quite a few different bullets out of my 6.5 Creedmoor it likes 130 ELD-M and 143 ELD-Ms, but have just recently started testing 140 ELD-M and 147 ELD-M bullets.
Both shoot well but the 147s seem a bit better. I use HBN coating and Nosler brass (52.7 H2O)and out of my 26" X-Caliber barrel I get 2930 fps average with 147 ELD-M seated 2.890" coal behind 48 grs. of RL26 and BR2 primers. SD is 5 fps.

Shooting pard and I have been playing with two creeds with #26, 140-142g bullets. There as a node for both of us at 48-48.5g at 2900 fps, small groups, small ES. We went to 50g with no pressure issues, velocity was 3000-3030 fps, primers made the difference, fed 215, in std Hornady brass. At 3030 fps, groups were tad bit less than an inch at 100 yards, while the lower node at 2900 was bug holes. Our barrels are 8T, 24" long. We shot 140's, Sierra sptbt, nosler ballistic tips, hornady's of various types, nosler partitions. These two rifles are hog and deer rifles and 300 yards would be a long shot.

It is obvious that R#26 will blow H4350 out of the water in terms of speed with Hornady cases doing just fine at 2900-3000 fps, and we do like the large primer. This slow burning powder likes a hot primer. We started off with Rem 9 1/2's, then cci 200's, then fed 215's. The hotter the primer, the better the accuracy, and we should have tried a win mag primer but barrels had a lot of rounds on them. We load right at the range, have a shooting shed that we shoot and reload out of, putting the rifle in a rack in front of the AC unit to cool the barrel while loading the next group of loads to try. The R#26 is very dense for it's volume, and all of our loads were compressed in the Creed, but we did not use long drop tubes.

I want to try R#26 in a 260, 260 AI, 7/08, and 7/08 AI next. The powder is very dense for it's volume, and all of our loads were compressed. I am afraid that the small primer guys on this powder will "miss the boat", but that is only a WAG on my part from out playing with primers.

My gut feeling is that #26 will perform better with heavier bullets because I don't know if you will be able to get enough powder in the case for 130g bullets if you are looking for speed with accuracy in the 6.5 Creed size of cases.

Im wondering what it will do with the 150 SMK's, I may have to order some. I might just be able to make them work out of my 28", 1;8 Bartlett at those speeds. If so it would just bump the Creedmoor up a notch.

Anyone tried R-26 in Creedmoors with 28-30" barrels?

I'll bet that you will see great velocity and accuracy in that long barrel. I have been getting fine results with my 24-inch barrel.

I get just under 3000 fps, with Re 26 and 129 Interlocks in my .260. 2825 under the 147 ELDX. Heavily compresses, but no big deal. I saw very little difference between mag and regular primers, but did not do extensive testing.

No, but I would suspect the slower burning powders in longer barrels would help velocity and barrel life.
Not a Creedmore, but my 30" .260 likes #26 with the 147s .I worked up til it starting shooting idiculous little bugholes, then Chronied. I got 2970 for average fps and under half in off a bipod,so I am happy.....And I was still fairly light on pressure. Creedmore with a long pipe should do 2900. fairly comfortably.
