image.jpeg I recently had Alex Wheeler built a Remington/ Krieger 8.5 twist (26" Remington Varmint Taper) 6.5 Creedmoor for varmint shooting. Will be able to shoot eastern coyotes out to 800 yards in a rolling field behind a butcher shop that deposits scraps across the field. As I am very unfamiliar with the Creed and I would appreciate advise on loads for the task. Will be using Berger 130 VLD hunting orange box thin jacket as I have 900 to burn. Breaking in barrel (6 shot above) at 100 yards with 41 grains of Varget and CCI 450 primers at @3010 fps the rifle shot a number of .200 to .300 groups but at 300 yards the groups had about 2" of vertical.
    Thanks for the help.
PS: My nephew will also be using it in PRS competition.

I would try either H4350 or RL-26 & see if your results improve. Both work very well. Some will say RL-26 is too slow BUT they haven't tried it.

Might want to reconsider your bullet choice for that distance. Coyotes are very thin skinned and bullets tend to pencil through at longer ranges. Something with a plastic tip would be my first choice. Good luck and let us know how it goes.:D:D

    Roger,
I've been running Rl26 in the 6.5 and love it.
Seems like you can't pack enough of it in a case. I've tried it in 06',260, and the 6.5.
I have a 300 yrs target I shot w/6.5 on a real windy day it literally has a straight line rt to left. I can see my 3 shot groups are sub 1".
    I suck in heavy wind!
In the 06' I'm still playing with it. I did a test 20 rounds split into 4 groups with 2 different FL dies, rcbs& hornady match grade, neck sized half of each group i put a light crimp.
Group size was quite large on most loads but agian there was definitely a horizontal line visible in all 4 targets. Tells me velocity is pretty consistent.
Next I'm going to work with Rl16, 260 likes this one better w/120 gr bullets.

And therein lies the rub with these cartridges, getting a relatively slow for varmint bullet to be accurate AND still work on game at long ranges.

I shot the 130 VLDs on African thin skin plains game in a 6.5x47 at 2950 and after 500, they pencil holed. I would go with a lighter bullet.

    I would try RL 17 with a different 130.

My creed really like Rl16 and Rl26 with 26 being by far the best and 100 fps faster than the others. Superformance is stellar too. Hard to believe, but my rifle does not like the old favorite for this round H4350.

Aren't all Creedmoor loads "long range accuracy loads"? :D

Can be, depends on one's accuracy level acceptance. Mine is MOA of deer for sure.
