4 inch stock in a SEB NEO

looks like the NEO only goes to about 3.75 width of the front bag for the fore end of a stock for 600 or 1000 yards or so with the factory 3 piece bag.

rather than thin the stock down to 3.70 finished (resale drop and want to use other guns with a 4 inch fore end for long range at a bench)

should I thin the inside (bag side) of each of the 2 round columns and perhaps thin the side bags a little to get the full 4 inches of the stock to fit the bags,
maybe with a little less sand I might not have to thin the columns?

any experience in this as I would also like to keep the NEO stock and not modified, anybody else get a 4 inch stock to rife in the front bag without modification other than the sand fill level

simple enough I just do not have the time to try it right now not at home for a week, and I like how it is set for BR guns now

I am not familiar with the NEO but I thought the SEB rests I saw left stock up to 6 inches wide or more. You could always call Protector and get thinner side bags made. Matt

That's why they make the Seb Max.

my neo has adjustability, I have the Ratigan version with a one piece bag, you will need another front bag for your stock, not sure if Ernie Bishop or Mike Ratigan carry different bag sizes, Protektor or edgewood will probably make you what you need.

I tried my 4" forearm in my NEO BR with a 4" bag from Seb. My issue is that when I operated
the joystick left or right, the bag tensioning thumb screws would easily limit out on lateral motion,
coming into contact with the posts, potentially & actually throwing shots opposite direction of contact.

Also tried removing thumb screws, but I didn't like the feel. No use in beating a dead horse - get a Max.

I am looking for a MAX and have one on order w/ Ernie. see my link:

Take the side bags out and glue/secure felt pads or thinner material to the sides instead? this would give you some more room.

Call protecter, they make a 4" fore arm bag in a regular 3" bag size outside dimensions. i get it with 1/2" ears…jim

Hi Jeff,

Try to remove one of the side tension screws (or both), adjust the side tension to your liking, then align the rest-rifle-rear bag accordingly.
Just be sure that the side bags are at least or close to 1/2" thick over the side plate assembly. Adjust the sand inside, or (just) "push" them to be about 0.6" thick.

The CTC between the NEO posts is 200 mm, that gives 175 mm spacing (approx 6.89") between the posts....so with 4" stock + 2 x (0.5" side plate + 0.6" side bag) it will give you about 0.69" of free space.

If you use one side tension screw, and set it almost "half deep" (not deepest, say for fine/more tension adjustment), you still have about .35" free space/room there.
.35" side to side movement on the top will give you over than 38 MOA already.
That (4" stock) is about the maximum a NEO can handle, whilst the MAX can handle up to 8" stock.

Hope this help,
seb.

I think Ernie has 4" wide 1pc bag in stock, if not you can order from another source, or just use the 3pc bag.
ATB,
seb.
