started doing some load testing and was just second guessing my chrono I’m running a 28 in krieger 1-10 twist using 210 gr SMK and 71.5gr of reloader 22. .010 off the lands and getting a consistent 3080 FPS. Just seems a little faster than I thought it would be. Any ideas. Thanks

Sounds about right to me I was shooting my 210 smk at 2950 fps in a 26 in barrel. I was using 79gr of h 1000.

From my point of view it seems to be a little to much. I shoot 215 Hybrid at 2920 in 28" barrel. I feel it's my upper node.

That could be close I think. I also shoot the 215 Berger out of a 300 Win Mag. I get 2995 fps out of a 26" BRUX with 79 gr H1000. The 215 is a perfect match to the 300 Win Mag, and also excellent on game performance.

I was running 210’s at 2940 With RL-22 in my Win Mag with a 28” tube at one point. Rebarreled to a 28” 1-9” twist and run 3,066 with 215 Berger’s with H1000. If you’re getting easy bolt lift and long brass life AND you trust your chronograph, I’d not worry about it and run with it. On another note, I’d get away from RL-22 if I were you, lot to lot variances are pretty bad in my experince and temp sensitivity is pretty significant. It does shoot well I’ll give it that. I highly recommend H1000 tho and trying a box of 215’s their accuracy, BC, and terminal performance exceed the 210 VLD’s in my opinion.

I have a Tikka 300 Win Mag and use the Noslar 180 gr Ballistic Tip and Accubond, both run at 2960 fps out of the 24 inch barrel. I would suspect the 178 gr would be very similar. As for the 208 gr bullet I don't use that in the win Mag but my 300 Rum. It moves them at 3180 fps. In the 300 Win Mag you should be able to get around the 2800 fps with the 208 gr with a bit of experimenting with different powder combo's. The 208 gr bullet would be to long for the Tikka magazine as the 180gr Noslars are border line for magazine fit and they are shorter than the 208gr's.

Just a FYI....at around 76gr. of H1000 with a 220gr. Bullet your load in a saami min. Spec. Barrel and chamber is on average about 5-6k psi over max. Working pressure in a .300wm if memory serves me correctly. I’ve seen the data out of ammunition pressure test barrels.

Even if your not seeing signs of heavy bolt lift and or ejector marks on the cases the over pressure can still be there.

    Be careful with your loads.

I’ve had great results from IMR 7828 SSC running 215 Hybrids and 230 Hybrids in my .300 Win.

I have one of your barrels that is 27 in. with a 1-8.5 twist and a GemTech on the front and I push 208 gr. ELDMs at 3020 fps with an SD of ~6 fps. with 74 gr. of MRP, CCI250, Norma Brass. I have not found ANY signs of over pressure. My primer pockets are stiff, primers look great, easy extraction, low SD, great accuracy, brass looks great.... So.... I'm just going with it unless you got a good reason not to...?

Are you at SAMMI minimum OAL?

I use an A191 chamber in my 300WM and my handloads are significantly longer.

I got on here tonite to ask about the A191 chamber. Can you provide a link to history and differences between A191 and SAAMI min? Website to go to with prints?

On another note, for the Reloder guys, do you like RL26 with the 210SMK? I only ask because alliant indicates some great velocities with that powder and I have 300 of them (210's).

Frank's post has me worried because my load right now is 76.0 H1000 behind a 208ELD-M. SAAMI min. chamber. 10 twist. No pressure signs, (bolt lifts fine but extraction is not reliable - even with factory ammo; RR prefix model 700 action) and the load is a laser out to 750. No chrono data yet. I'll watch this thread and post my speeds next week.

Thanks to all and especially to Frank for the safety tip.

    God bless,

Sorry bud but haven’t seen any data with the MRP to give you any guidance.

Just a close guess but with the 208’s your probably o.k. I’d say your at max though.

The difference between the A191 chamber and saami? The A191 in the grand scheme of things if memory serves me right has about a .020” longer throat. The throat diameter is .3098” and parallel. The Saami min. Spec. Chamber is basically a cone and not conducive to accuracy. I’ll dig up the prints and post them tomorrow so you can look at them. I’ll take the A191 chamber any day over Saami min. Spec.

Wow. Norma lists the Sierra 200Gr MK with a max charge of MRP of 68.4 grains.

Attached are the drawings. If we put a barrel on a rifle for a customer and the customer tells me they are shooting primarily bullets 190gr. and heavier we use the A191 reamer. If the customer is shooting 190gr. and lighter bullets we use the Obermeyer spec. reamer. Saami reamer is used on some customer builds as well as most ammunition test barrels where it calls for Saami spec.

With Bergers max charge of 74.0 gr of H1000 that is at 103%. How does 79gr work? My goal is to get as close to 3000fps as I can with the 215 hybrids and not have problems with over pressures

I called Berger a while back for info on the 210 VLD's over H1000 and they told me a max charge of either 75 or 75.5. Seems low, but I figured they're smarter than I am.

Longview 79 gr is fine in my gun. Borden action,26" BRUX, Holland brake, Mcmillan Game Scout. I did however use a custom reamer with added free bore. I talked in depth with BROZ over on Long Range Only who is a expert on the 300 Win Mag. He advised me on how to spec the reamer for the 215. With a Wyatt extended box I barely have clearance for my COAL. So I am utilizing all my case capacity. No pressure signs in my gun. I stopped there because I am sure I am at or near MAX. Velocity was very good and accuracy is awesome. Load development consisted of 15 rounds only because I started so low on powder charge. I run them 30 thou off. Anyone with a standard reamer should not try to go up to this load.
