30-06 Project rifle w lite loads

This is for Evan.. I've been messing around w this 1950's vintage 30-06 for a few years. It will be my Wife's "New" Deer hunting rifle [think 30-30 level of performance]. After function testing it. I put a Timney trigger in it. Swapped the old weaver post & crosshair scope for this huge 6 x 24 BSA just for load development . Total cost $400 dollars. This old Husqvarna Mauser only weighs 5.5 lbs. The trigger is adjusted to 2.5lbs. Last outing Mrs. Mike in Ct. had some fun using a 65% load of 4895 & 150Gr Win. PP SP flat base bullet. After a bullet penetration/expansion test {& new Leopold scope}I'm going to let her hunt deer w this old rig.. Mike Ps: I might use this one myself. A long shot around these parts is 85Yds.

How bout 110 ttsx barnes with 5744 powder , now that would be the thicket ticket.

Myself, I'm not a fan of Lt. for caliber bullets to be used for deer hunting. That said, I had a request last year for a Reduced velocity 125 Gr youth hunting load for a 308 lady hunter. That 125Gr Sierra spitzer really did well out to 200yds dinging a steel disc. 4" ? It was something to see her shoot that rifle. Now, I'd do a penetration test for that 75% loading. She ended up using a standard 150grain loading, never got a shot..That's hunting. Mike in ct

Snert, Funny you mention that Barnes brand bullet. I used only 3 in the old 375 ouch n ouch this last trip to the range...My buddy bob shot this test load. mike in ct
