28 Nosler w/195 EOLs pressure at low loads

In my new 28 Nosler, I'm at 82.3 grains of RL33 with the Berger 195 EOLs and am getting a hard bolt lift. Velocity is 3000 plus or minus ten. Barrel is a Brux 25" 1-8, freebore puts the pressure ring right at the bottom of the neck, Harrels four port brake, Gunwerks action, Jewell trigger. Jumping .010, right at 45 rounds so far. Shoots great and know I'm going to need to back off but trying to figure out how others are using 84 & up loads for this bullet. Any comments or experiences regarding this?

There are too many variables to speak about that affect this, but know that every rifle is different. Little things like case volume and neck tension can raise pressures. Even minor differences in bore diameter from barrel to barrel.
You just have to load to your particular setup and find your sweetspot...

I had this happen in my 28 Nosler. First thing, RL 33 is a dirty powder. I have talked to many people who run it and have to clean every 30 rounds because of false pressure signs. Another thing to check is the fired case compared to loaded round. My 28 had a tight neck clearance. Once i switched to necked up 26 Norma Nosler brass pressure went way down. You could also neck turn the brass.

My reamer was cut for turned necks and I am doing that. Got some backed off loads to try with 28 Nosler brass. I wasn't aware of Norma making brass for the 26 Nosler. Will check in to that.

Freebore means as much as anything when pressure issues arise. I have seen where throating a rifle out .050 was as much as 2 grains or more of powder. Then you have the slow barrels that show up once in a while. It could also be the lot of powder.

Is the lift hard from the start or just near the top? Matt

I would venture to say that you are not seeing enough neck/chamber clearance. My 28 pressured out tell i was about .005-.006 total neck clearance. That big bullet/powder combo needs room to run. If your trying to run a tight neck thats your issue.

Hard from the start.

I'm turning the necks and my loaded round is .314, reamer is .318 so should be plenty of clearance.

Just an FYI. Incase you get tired of turning necks, 26 Nosler Norma brass is cheaper and loaded round is the same size as your turned.

If you live in Washington i'll give you some to try.

I'm on the right coast, Delaware. Thanks for the offer. I sold my 26 Nosler turn key operation to a friend of mine. I'll "borrow" a half dozen pieces of brass from him.

Whats the freebore on your reamer? most people have then throated so the 195's are seated way out.I will measure my OAL one of my loaded rounds and get back to you.

A lot of guys switched from RL33 to N560 after getting strange pressure problems after 200 rounds. Cleaner, more temp stability, no strange spikes. I believe Ryan Pierce switched as well, he is a 28 Nosler 195 guru.

Thanks, I sent Ryan an email. I made my last attempt with RL33 today. Best load, 81.5, is still hard bolt lift. Lesser loads are junk accuracy.

90% of the problems is from guys not cleaning the barrel well enough. That carbon deposit will increase pressures substantially and ruin accuracy. With reloader 33 I recommend scrubbing every 30 rounds. That will require Rem40X bore cleaner or something similar to remove that stubborn carbon. VV N570 is a better powder. Not near as temp sensitive as 33, way cleaner, same speeds and just as accurate. I just got this 200 yard group from a customer a week or so ago. 3 shots .167"/.081moa at 200 yards with 82.7 gr of 570. Remember my freebore is very long so start lower than my loads you see on all the forums.
