I always like to tinker so I thought I would try something new,,,I had a 24",,.223 rem. 700 take off bbl and thought why not!!!.....I rechamberd it to 22 Nosler ,,,I ran the reamer in an xtra .030" to clean up all of the old .223 chamer (there is a little diff in the length of the ctg cases at the begining of the neck,,) and of course the resize die must be moved up from the shell holder the appropriate ammount also,,,(naturally if doing this with a new bbl I would have headspaced it correctly ) I didnt want to cut off the bbl and start over,,,,any how,,,I tried Benchmark--Rx 12--H 4895,,,and Sierra 53 gr SMK bullets,,,the bbl is 12 twist so can use only bullets under 60 gr,,,,,,I got the vel. up to ~3700 before the primers started lookin "thin",,,backed down to 3550-3575 and got the best accuracy with H 4895 and jumping the bullets ~.020",,,,,the Nosler brass fire formed well (loaded neck dia. ~.252"--use Wilson .249 bushing) and stood up the the pressure well,,,,I hope this can give somone a basis to get started with,,if you have an action/bolt with a .223 bolt face this is an option to consider,,,,Roger
PS ,,,I finally got my pics. downloaded,,,the ctg on the left is the fire-formed finished case that is ~.030" longer than std. to clean up all of the old existing chamber,,,the one on the right is new unfired case,,,sorry about the fuzzy pic quality,,,,the last pic with the white back ground shows the diff between the 22 Nosler and .223 rem.,,as you can see the Nosler has aprox. the same volume as a 220 Russian,,,,this case would make a great 20 cal or 6mm ctg as well !!!!!
