I think so for what its worth...thats why its open registration.. If not they should do a limited number of invite slots or invite only

It comes down to the goals of the match.

Does the match want to be a high-level championship? Then limit entries to xxx classifications, or make it an invitational.

Does the match want to be a destination match? Then do what we just did - first come, first served.

Does the match want to grow the sport by bringing in new shooters? Then turn it into a pro-am.

I've always seen BSWN as a destination match. Phoenix is awesome in the winter. I'd love to see more shooters accommodated, but I wouldn't wish any more work on Matt, Michelle, Mid, or any of the others that work so hard to make this match the success it is.

It’s y’all’s great work, Berger and sponsors, and the fantastic 100 target Ben Avery range and surroundings that made it incomparable. I hear you on the volunteers’ time, I’ve been a club match director, myself. Hats tipped to all past and present volunteers. And there’s limited qualified ppl. Yes, I guess some other big matches have to be the answer as the participant numbers grow.

For those that didn't make it in, there are other great matches to shoot in Phoenix. There is a 1000 yard state championship & a Palma state championship the last weekend of November & the first weekend in December. I know it's not the Southwest Nationals but they are great, well run matches with a high level of competition. Just a thought.

I was hunting grouse at 10k feet in Colorado and managed to get some phone service. I took a short break and checked the website. I saw there were 4 spots left for the mid. I signed in and got a spot. I went for the first time last year and had a great time. Really looking forward to the 2019 match.

Definitely a great match and the timing is perfect for Phoenix weather. Perhaps someone that’s going could start a volunteer list for work detail thread to help these people out...many hands lighten the load!

I just want to say THANK YOU, Matt, Michelle, Mid, Nancy and all others involved. I first met Matt at the October 2015 Nationals...he escorted my wife and I to our trailer location and unlocked the electrical service. I didn't know who he was at the time, but he was not above doing this job or any other that needed to be done...first class operation...This will be my first time at SWN, but I have tried many times to get in...looking forward to the match...

I guess I had some help from above. Plus it was a lucky day.. It is beautiful up there. Wilderness area so foot traffic only. We’re allowed three. First two fell to a classic double. Third fell after a great flush by my Springer

    Matthew,
    Could you clarify “standby”?
Does that mean there is no wait list?
    Thanks,
    Lloyd

I just want to say many many thanks to Mid, Nancy, Matt, and Michelle and all the other volunteers for all their hard work, and don't let the criticism bother you. You can't please everyone. Keep doing a great job. John

Yes there is a wait list. What I was referring to is people who are not registered for the match showing up hoping there is an open spot

I, too, want to thank Mid, Nancy, Michelle, Matt and the whole Desert Sharpshooter club for putting this match on and for all of their hard work and dedication to our sport.

There were at least eight F-Class shooters from the Bridgeville Club here in Delaware who tried to "get in", half of us made it "in" and half of us did not - luck of the draw, I suppose. We view this as a "destination match", mostly because it's the best major match in the country held on the best facility in the country; always well run; always a lot of fun. Yes, the weather is much better in Phoenix than Delaware in February - but if SWN wasn't the very best match in the country we certainly wouldn't be so anxious to "get in" and we certainly wouldn't be so wiling to spend the money to travel all the way across the country.

Keep up the good work- thanks for all you do!

Looking forward to coming to Phoenix in February.

    John

What about the people who happened to get into the 600 yd match and not the grand agg match. If there happens to be a spot open at the last minute in the grand agg, you aren't going to let them take that spot. Not trying to be critical, just pondering different scenarios.

Interesting, and likely scenario. By reading what Matt has posted, I infer that shooters available to shoot would get an opportunity to do so in the order they appear on the waiting list. In the moment, it would likely look a bit like standby, but would honor the wait list.

Matt, am I on target here?

That is what I understand Matt said. Standby shooters must be on the wait list.

I would guess if your in the 600 but not on the wait list for the grand agg, you won’t be first priority.
If someone is on wait list for grand agg and is in the 600, they will have priority first in order they are on the wait list.
Then if no one in last scenario( highly unlikely) then anyone from just 600.
Joe Schmoe off the street won’t be able to get in if they aren’t in either match.
