20 Beggs and 220 Beggs loading info.

Will be having a 20 Beggs (32 &40 grainers in a 1-11" twist ) and the 220 Beggs (52-53 match bullets ) made and am looking for load help . The brass will be Lapua , primers probably Fed. 205 Match , and probably Sierra 20's in the 20 and Bart's 22 cal's in the 220 Beggs . Powder choice and test ranges would really be of help !!!!!

I can't help with the 220 Beggs. I do have some experience with the 220 Beggs. I currently have 3 barrels/rifles chambered in it. All three use the same load data, 53gr Hillbilly Bullet, 26.0gr LT32. I use CCI BR-4s, but any small match primer would do. I did have one barrel that shot a little better with Benchmark. Bart's bullets would be about the same as the Hillbilly. I have had the best accuracy with the 39gr BK in all of my 20's. Feel free to PM me with any questions you might have.

I'll second what Rick said. I can't be much help on the 20 cal either, but in the 220 Beggs, 26.0gr of LT32 behind a 52-55gr match type bullet, and it's stupid accurate. Great little cartridge and easy to make and tune. Good velocity too...That load gives about 3,600fps.

Gentlemen thanks for taking the time and your info. of giving me a starting point . It looks like the tough one is the 20 Beggs as my researching is coming up blank.

Just got my 20 beggs back from the smith a month ago. The only load Ive worked up at this point is:

40gr Vmax
25gr H322
BR4 primer
20 inch barrel, just over 3670 FPS

Very accurate load in this rifle. Fun caliber, easy to form, easy to load and fun to shoot.

This is probably not answering the question but the Beggs case is a necked 220Russian case to .224 or .20 with no other changes. That might help you out.

The BEGGS design has a sharper radius at the neck-shoulder junction. The 220 Russian (.224 caliber) uses a .125 radius, which results in excessive growth. Gene Beggs sharpened this to .060, which is the same as the PPC. In the 22 caliber version, Benchmark and LT-32 work great. Possibly too slow for the lighter weight 20 caliber bullets?

Edit: Gene Beggs would be the "go to guy" for information.

If you need a bushing sizer contact Hornady. They make them with Gene's spec.
If you need a hand die seater contact LE Wison
If you need a reamer contact JGS or PTG. Both have reamers with Gene's spec.

I just gathered everything above and was also unable to contact Gene

What's interesting about the Beggs series of cartridges is you need only one sizing die for .20, .22 and 6mm cartridges as the bodies are all the same. Then you just change the neck bushings. I have the .20 Beggs in one of my rifles, but it's been years since I've done anything with it. My friend knew Gene Beggs and was really interested in his work. Towards the end of his shooting career, my friend was just shooting a .220 Russian in benchrest competition.
