  1. Remington 700 SA Rebarrel Project

Given the limited access to gunsmiths, you may want to look at a remage setup. While you would not be able to pick the reamer, you can have your pick on cartridge and easily swap to something else if you don't like it. After you get the kit the cost pretty much ends up being 2 for one on pre-fit...
  2. Who else needs a haircut really bad? ***Updated***

Just shave it with a no-clip (no spacer) and call it good. Try on a skull cap after. They stick like velcro which is perfect for cold weather. Started doing it nearly 30 years ago. Took a break for a while but then got tired of having to go lay down $20+ bucks every couple of weeks for a 10...
  3. Bedding MPA Chassis

I did not take the cerakote off before doing one of mine as I knew as some point I was going to swap the action over to a different chassis. Held up perfectly for thousands of rounds yet I was still able to chisel it out. Bedding the MPA is a great idea since it is next to impossible to get the...
  4. Priming tool

The end of the world is coming so we all may as well buy one and go out smiling.
  5. POST PICS OF YOUR PRS MATCH RIFLES

You know they just banned you for thinking that, right?
  6. Savage Action Truing?

I have played with this a bunch. For a while I had the best result with running the bolt internals dry but then heat from friction started to become a problem. There will always be some resistance because of the floating head, but I have found the biggest culprit poor closure to be the cocking...
  7. Can someone explain the need for gain twist rifling?

Listening to the guys that are actually shooting gain twist, the biggest advantage is they can shoot different weight bullets with minimal to no difference in zero.
  8. Savage Action Truing?

Not enough booze to make some women pretty. ;)
  9. Does anyone NOT bump shoulders on FL resizing after initial firing on virgin brass?

You are not doing anything abnormal/wrong. The question about bump is just the height of the die. It is not about FL vs NS, bushing vs no bushing. By way of extreme example, if you run your FL die down to the shell holder and had a heavy over cam you would likely get enough bump to cause...
  10. Can someone explain the need for gain twist rifling?

About 1/4 of the way down the page. https://bartleinbarrels.com/barrel-faq/
  11. Does anyone NOT bump shoulders on FL resizing after initial firing on virgin brass?

I always check, but it is extremely rare that the shoulder needs to be bumped after the first firing. I had a conversation with someone at Redding maybe 18 months ago about how I could go about eliminating an inconsistency I was seeing somewhere. During that conversation I was told that it is...
  12. For anyone using an AMP

I purchased the firmware upgrade as soon as it came out. I have yet to put a newer version on that would remove the sort function which AMP declared does not work. I use the analyze function on brass that does not have an exact lot number listed in the AMP settings chart, otherwise I just use...
  13. Die choice

I don't think they are on the same level as the Wilson micrometers. If transferring is what you are after then I suppose it may make sense. For me, if I lose interest in something than it just migrates to a drawer until I decide to use it again, or until I am completely done with it and decide...
  14. Die choice

Wilson is my top. If you go that route, just be aware they don't have an expander button. If you need to expand (which you will at some point) you will either need to buy a dedicated expander and mandrels or just buy dies that have an expander button. If you want a die with an expander, Redding...
  15. Prepping brass procedure question

Thanks for giving me a DOH! moment. To those that say most LC/mil bras is crimped, those days are long gone. I got tired of cutting out crimps so before I replaced my LC stock pile a while back I purchased a Dillon swager. IT HAS NEVER BEEN USED and just sits on the shelf. The number of pieces...
  16. My First hydroformed 6 Dashe case. how does it look?

It takes a bunch of work to get them close, and it is possible to push the forming process too hard to where you blow the shoulder in the forming die - I did just that on one piece. While I don't remember exactly how much the die will allow them to stretch, I do recall that not getting much in...
  17. 2 Mile Range Finder?

If you want to spend the money, they exist AND they are reliable. Going to cost you around $8k. This one gets it done all day. https://www.safran-vectronix.com/product/plrf25c/ The Terrapin X is a darn good rangefinder, but it would come up short on 2 miles.
  18. Prepping brass procedure question

It has been a while since I purchased fired brass, but last few batches had minimal crimps. Was probably in the 10% range across over 8,000 pieces consisting of 556, 308, 9, 40, and 45.
  19. Which GPS Distance Measurement App?

QGIS (open source Graphic Information System). You can import using or create your own polygons, and do manual and calculated distances. The package itself can get very large so only import the plugins that you need. Having said that, if you take the time to learn what the plugins do you can...
  20. My First hydroformed 6 Dashe case. how does it look?

I probably went though 1 o-ring for every 25 pieces of brass. Let's just say it was packages of o-rings. What got me was the plunger itself. It started to deteriorate at the top around 300, was really bad around 500, and was pretty much unusable by the time I got to 700 (limped it through).
