    I like 17-4 in a 900 state The more i work with A2 i like it but if you want to harden it you need heat treat ovens. If your going to braze it in place some 4140 may be great also. If its a stainless bolt 17-4 in a 900 state maybe ok. You just dont want the same stuff as your action you are...

    I think it is three points you can dial in because i can always dial in the throat, about a inch forward of that to about .0002 and the muzzle then when i crown i dial in the muzzle one point on the reamed hole and about a half inch or so ahead of my first point on my muzzle then i always know...

You know a no turn reamer like a 6mm bra 272 neck and a 6mm bra 268 neck made by same manufacturer to same dimensions other than the neck.     The bedding block on mine whent all the way thru the stock so i just drilled it thru with a #21 drill and tapped it 10-32. I cant remember how thick the aluminum block inside is but probably 3/8 to a1/2 it works great mine was tapped for a 3" front rest attachment i made.

    I have checks i use regularly like my gauge blocks and standards with holes i use my various ring gauges to check my measurement with my calipers to make sure my measurement is consistent and that is all about force used to achieve the right measurement.

    With any calliper you need to learn the force it takes to read clearly. Even the best can fluctuat in measurement that close but they arent really able to measure that tight if you can get consistent measurements to a thoughsanth then it is fine that half thousand movement is not worth...
