Its very simple to form brass, you just run 223 brass through a neck bushing die to form the neck down to .204- that's it.

Took the gun in the link above to WY this last summer and was absolutely amazed at how well it did in the wind.

Out to 400 yards it is a laser. Shot yesterday at 492 yards, was grouping right around 2.5-3". Haven't really shot it farther than that other than hitting gongs at the range while we were in wy- no idea how it was grouping but no problem ringing the steel.

Just build a 6br and a 20 vartag

I ALMOST agree with North Fork.

The 6br or Dasher is a must have.

My .20Vartarg went to a new home with a very happy new owner.....The performance is good/the brass is NOT!!!!!

I stepped up to the VT`s big brother and built a .20 Bobcat(.20-222 with 40* shoulder.) and get to use Lapua brass to boot..... ;D

My "rat" arsenal consists of,

2 .17HMR`s

1 .22 rimfire

1 .17 AH

1 .20 Bobcat

1 .20-223AI

1 .20PPC

1 .20BR

1 .22 BRX

1 .223

1 6 Dasher

2 based off of the 6.5x47 necked down with all kinds of stuff moved around.....

Nothing larger than 6mm for me...

It`s kinda like Blondes,Brunettes or Red heads........They`ll all do the same things, which do you like... :o

I'm an eastern varmint and predator hunter. My favorite varmint caliber, bar none, is the 223 Remington. Here are my reasons:

1. Easy and economical to reload; components readily available.

2. 1/2 moa groups are not difficult to acheive out a varmint class rifle.

3. It's effective, for me, out to 300 yards with 50 or 55 grain bullets.

4. Recoil is mild.

For longer ranges I prefer the 22 250 or 243, both handle the wind better and have flatter tragectories but quite honestly 95% of my shoots are under 300 yards.

Day in and day out the .223. I have a Savage that I have shot thousands of rounds in. It shoots 30's to 80's well.
They are cheap to load and I can shoot it all day if I keep it down to about 50 rounds per hour. Current round count approx. 6,000.

I wrote an article on the 20 Practical in Varmint Hunter Mag the last addition and agree with mattri, I'm amazed!! One of the last prairie dog shoots I went on the dogs were shot on petty bad, they didn't want to come out of their holes at all. Finally I told my friend, "I'm going to start shooting them in the head". I was hitting prairie dogs head out to about 250 yards. I didn't miss much either.

Right now I'm having a 6 x 45 built, same cheap cases and easy of loading.

Ditto, especially if you already have 223 bushing dies.

20 Practical all the way. Shoots flatter and faster than a .223, accuracy is amazing and they even buck the wind better than the 22s. All the components are based off of the 223 so its cheap and easy to load for.

20Practical, 20 Tactical, 20VarTarg, and even the 204 Ruger. For PDs it doesnt get any better than a 20 cal. Doing it better, flatter, faster, and more efficiently that any other caliber. Oh did I mention accurate, lack of recoil, better Bullet BC than most of the 22s. The 20s overshadow the 17s the 223, and the 22-250. Larry in western Ky.

20 VT will do all the OP is asking, no hyper velocity, but with 39SBK's, its got less drift than a 22-250 with almost half the powder, no recoil to speak of, so you can watch the show, and my fireforming loads are shooting .4" all day long (just getting mine going, and its SWEET!!!)

6BR is the way to go. I have had to big sixes, barrel life sucks. Also the big 22 cal are hard on barrels too. The 6BR can run a 68 gr bullets to 108 gr with a 8 twist, great barrel life. No round can run with the 6BR as far as accuracy. Bug holes are no problem.

Love everything about the 6BR (or any other 6mm for that matter) for varmints except one thing- the cost to tool up for 1K plus rounds per trip. 20 Prac wins that one hands down.
