  • Anybody have one, if so what kind of performance are you getting with it? When my .243 Win. barrel needs to be replaced I'm thinking about rebarreling it in 6MM Creedmoor.

    Thanks

  • Wayne,
The 6mm Creedmoor is a wildcat formed by simply necking down the 6.5 Creedmoor case. Case capacity of the 6mm Creedmoor with Hornady brass is identical to 243 Win capacity with Lapua brass. In my 1000yd Light Gun I am running 105 A-max bullets at 3170fps with H4350, (28" barrel) there is a little more room but that is where the accuracy is. Brass life has been good. I expect barrel life to be similar to the 243 Win. At less than 600 rounds I was already seeing a lot of firecracking ahead of the throat.
Because of the barrel life I may go with a 6BR,BRX or Dasher when it is time to replace this one, although it has been shooting well.
I am running a 274 no-turn neck. I tried a .272 but that proved to be a little tight as loaded rounds measure .272.

  • James,

I have a 6.5CM now and was thinking the 6MM CM would be a good alternative to .243 Win as I was assuming I could get the same velocity but with better barrel life and perhaps better accuracy.

It's cool to see you're getting 3170 FPS with a 105 though because I'm getting exactly 3170 FPS out of a 105 with my .243 Win. so at least I wouldn't give up any velocity with the 6MM CM.

I assume you had Hornady make you the dies?

    Thanks for the info.

  • Wayne,
For a sizing die I converted a Hornady 6.5 Creedmoor FL die to a Bushing die.
For bullet seating I use a RCBS Competition 243 Win die that I made a 6mm Creedmoor sleeve for.

I also have a 6.5 Creedmoor Heavy Gun. I think that with the new 123 gr Amax bullets performance should be near identical to the 6mm Creedmoor with the 105 Amax but with better barrel life. I have only tried the 140 A-max bullets so far though so at this point it is just speculation.

  • GAPrecision sells head stamped 6mm Creed brass, as well as factory Hornady dies, I shoot a 6.5 Creed, the Hornady 35 dollar dies surprisingly makes dam good ammo, I really don't like the seating die, but it makes straight ammo, but I'll be replacing it soon with a Redding, the non bushing FL sizing die at first appears to be cheap but after a little polishing I like it.

  • I jus had one built by GA. I took there recommended load(42.0 H4350 w/ 105 hybrid) touched the lands with it. Bore sited it at 500yards, Took 6 rounds to get in the x ring. Next 20 rounds cleaned a Fclass target with 13 x's....The guy pulling for me said the vertical was right around an inch. I was sold on the round!!! Can't wait to try it at 1k!

  • My results mirror james results, 3150ish with 28" barrel, just under 500 rounds, though I don't know if I'm getting any firecracking in the throat. Had Hornady make custom dies, FL & NS, upgraded the Hornady seater with a Forster 6XC Ultra micrometer seater. Shoots 105 Hornadys very well as long as the wind isn't playing with them first. Testing some DTACs next week weather permitting. I'd buy another on tuesday and twice on sunday.
