  • Just wondering if anyone has tried it and what kind of velocities you are getting with bullet weights between 130 and 142 Gr's.

  • Thanks for the response. Was it as accurate as H-4350 or H-4831sc. Just curious.

  • To date, I haven't tried either of those powders to make a comparison.  I had been using VV N165 prior to switching to RL17.  Accuracy improved significantly with RL17.  Previously, I thought that I was getting great accuracy with N165.  If you can find some RL17, I would be interested in your results.

  • Just got back from the range and we were comparing RL-17 and H-4350. Shooting 130 Gr. VLD's there is not much doubt that H-4350 is more accurate out of my friend's 6.5 X 284 trued Rem action with 25" Krieger barrel and Kiff bolt. This is strictly a hunting rifle but that little round impressed the heck out of me. The pure accuracy node on the rifle is at 2930 to 2960 fps but even pushing it to 3112 with the 4350 we were still shooting in the low 3's at 100yds and under 1" at 300yds. in horendus winds. The RL-17 gives us quite a bit more velocity but the groups opend up. At 3100+ fps and with a B.C. of 595, this thing should gather a whole lot of venison.

  • Chuckhunter, do you know what the twist of his barrel is? I have found that the 1/8 twist barrels do best around 2950 or so and the 1/8.5s can be "hotrodded" up about 3000. Nothing scientific, just my experience. I have a new 8.5 that I am waiting to chamber for just this reason.
